6 main types of Thai Buddhist Tattoos: Part 2

4. Golden-Tongued Bird 'Sha Li Ka' tattoo

This is sometimes just called the 'Sha Li Ka' Affinity tattoo because it helps improve interpersonal relationships.

Purpose:

This tattoo helps to increase your confidence level and when a person speaks with more conviction, he naturally becomes more attractive and convincing to the listener.

Master Ar Jahn Lao recommends this for those whose job requires them to have good PR (Public Relation) skills, social skills, persuasion skills etc. For e.g. insurance agents, sales and marketing executives, real estate agents, car sales agents etc, especially if you are naturally people-shy or a passive speaker.

Even people who feel they were born with the gift of being a great persuasive talker, still need this tattoo if connecting with people is part and parcel of their everyday job. This is as very often, good talkers may fall into their own trap without knowing it. Many of them have too glib a tongue (which the Chinese will say is too 'oily' a tongue) and 'scare' customers away with too much enthusiasm or too pushy a manner. If you have this tattoo, it can moderate your speaking so you appeal to a larger range of customers by being interesting enough without alarming anyone.

Master Ar Jahn Lao says that in Singapore, most of the believers that he's done this tattoo for are businessmen, lawyers, agents and office executives.

Procedure:

Since this tattoo is to help you 'speak' better, it is done on your tongue. Thus Master Ar Jahn Lao recommends you only allow a truly experienced and 'powerful' master do it for you because a novice might hurt you tongue and leave you 'speechless' for a few days until it stops hurting.

The correct procedure for this tattoo is for the Master to first purge his own mind of all random thoughts except the sutra he's chosen for you. He must ensure his mind, body and mouth are functioning 'as one', when he starts to prick the little 'Affinity Bird' on your tongue. The bird's tongue must be outstretched and facing the same direction as your tongue, for maximum results.

At the 8 Directions ('Ba Fang') of the Affinity Bird, the Master must prick 32 Buddhist yantra symbols. Then he will chant blessings for the completed Affinity Bird and place a tiny gold foil on the bird. Then he will ask you to slowly retract your tongue and swallow the blessed gold foil as you normally swallow your saliva. This completes the ritual.

5. Yuan Shen Guan Ding tattoo

The literal translation of this tattoo's name would be 'flooding your head with blessings to protect your soul', and that is precisely the purpose and aim of this tattoo.

Meaning and purpose:

The tattoo is pricked on the top of the back of your head (where your 'Tian Ling Gai' is). This is because it is believed that in our head resides our 'Yuan Shen' which is translated as either your soul /self /original nature.  Just like how the brain controls our nervous system and thus our entire body, our 'Yuan Shen' determines how's our luck and whether we meet with success or failure, whether we have energy and spirit, whether we have friends and good relationships. That is why we must protect our 'Yuan Shen' dearly.
(But don't worry, you do not need to shave for this tattoo)

This is a very special tattoo for good luck and is especially popular with those who are going through a spate of unfortunate incidents or just feeling down on their luck. Surely many people can identify with this kind of moody feeling.

This tattoo can work miracles and turn the tables on whatever's been giving you problems. You will feel revitalized and stronger after having this tattoo. 'Rags to riches' will no longer only be a dream.

This tattoo acts as (1) a shield to prevent evil spirits getting near our precious 'Yuan Shen' and (2) a blessing on our 'Yuan Shen' so we are surrounded by more positive forces in our life. It improves you observation skills, performance level, and wealth (including all 3 sources of wealth, the 'Zheng' source which means mainly your salary income, the 'Pian' source e.g. shortcuts to making more money or quick money, and the 'Heng' source e.g. lottery and gambling luck).

Procedure:

The Master will begin by chanting the scriptures of the Thai Reverend 'Lu Shi' Deity-Master, to remove any 'bad luck' that looms over your head. This is so that the tattoo will not end up trapping the bad luck on you instead of shielding you from the bad luck. Next, he will hand-prick the tattoo on the top of the back of your head.

Then the Master lifts the head-sculpture of the Thai Deity-Master Lu Shi  up and over your head to sanctify your 'Yuan Shen'. This completes the whole ritual.

Master Ar Jahn Lao says that this is especially popular in Thailand as it's worked many wonders for these believers.

6. Left & Right hand-tattoos to attract all the sources of wealth

The Master will prick Buddhist symbols that open the door of wealth and fortune on the believers' hands. For men, the Master will begin on your left hand, and for women, on your right hand. Then on a small piece of 24K gold flake, the Master writes the believer's birth date and characters ('Ba Zi') and chant the sutras to bless it. Finally, still chanting, the gold flake is hand-pricked into the believer's palm. It is up to you to choose whether to prick 3, 6 or 9 piece of gold flakes into your palm. This completes the ritual.

This tattoo is especially effective for those looking for better luck with other sources of wealth on top of their regular jobs.E.g. a good-paying part-time job, luck with the lottery, or luck at the casino.(Don't forget that we are going to have our first casino in Singapore soon)!
